I recently visited the beautiful city of Nice on the south coast of France and I would like to share with you some of my pictures from this very vibrant chilled out city amongst  the playground of the Mediterranean. A celebration  of the past, a protest against the future, Gloria Hunniford, the big boys toys, and the people who live and work in this paradise……..

Paradise City

Day 1

After a walk through the vibrant Sunday market with all its wonderful and very tasty fresh local produce like peaches and olives and cheese and I’m getting hungry thinking about it……..well worth a visit. We took a walk around the shore which brought us to the marina in Nice and some very impressive boats, with café’s and restaurants all around this was the perfect place to chill out in the shade with some good food and we found a suitable place to while away the mid morning and into the afternoon just watching the boats go by.

Mid afternoon we took the 40 minute bus journey out to Monaco where I think the boats got bigger

On arriving back in Nice there was buzz going on about something which on taking our places again at the same café’, we found out was a Commemoration of the Seige of Nice and the local hero Catherine Ségurane who some say lead the French defence and folklore has it that she mooned at the invading army who ran away aghast such was the horror to their Muslim faith.

Day 2 Cannes

Whilst having breakfast at the market we met the lovely Gloria Hunnyford and her husband, regular visitors to these parts,

we headed of to Cannes armed with some good advise from Gloria on the places to shop and eat.

The marina in Cannes was closed in preparation for the boat show and wasn’t even visible from around it,

blagging our way in failed miserably and after a swim we went investigating.

These guys were flying Welsh flags and looking for direction to Monte Carlo.

Back in Nice I got a chance to photograph this square which is normally heavily laden  with people.

Day 3

We had thankfully decided to spend our third day around Nice itself and luckily so as it turned out as the French had decided to protest. from what I could gather it was to do with government putting the retirement age up from 60 to 62 amongst other things but seemed to be a general strike and people were out in their thousands to show their disapproval, a bit like the UK  except, no, actually, no we’re just taking it………….again!!!…………viva la France

An hour latter you would have known they had been there the clean up job was that fast and efficient

in what I can say was a clean and well-kept city

Life quickly went back to normal and French
