The wedding photographer and the videographer are two of the most important people you bring to your wedding day, after all when the day is over and your home from honeymoon these are the people who provide you with the pictures of one of the biggest days in your life so that you can relive the memories forever, get it wrong and you’ll always regret it.
So what kinds of things do you need to consider when hiring your photographer?
Over the next few weeks we are going to bring you a series of articles on what you should consider before you go to price a photographer and what you should expect to get that makes a professional worth his/her money.
1. Decide what style of photography you would like.
Have you ever watched a wedding photographer at work at someone else’s wedding?
Sometimes the photographer is front and center directing people for posed pictures, sometimes they are in the background snapping away for a more journalistic approach, the style of your wedding photographs is a matter of personal taste and doing your research and looking at lots of different styles of photography is the best way to become aware of what’s out there and what photographers have a style that appeals to you.
The classic or traditional style.
The biggest advantage of this style of wedding photography is that you are fairly certain of what pictures you will get from the finished product you will be able to talk through and plan the photographs well in advance of the day so you will know what you’re going to get in your album though it may look outdated in years to come.
Photo journalistic style.
This is more of a risk when it comes to capturing a wedding as it is about capturing fleeting moments of the day which embody the spirit of the occasion, casual photographs of you and your guests at ease and unaware of the presence of the cameras. Done properly
by a photographer skilled in this kind of work it can have stunning results, done badly or by an inexperienced photographer it can be a disaster as the day slips away and with it the opportunities to capture one of the biggest days of your life.
Fun and quirky.
You may want to capture more of your personality in your wedding photographs, maybe you have an unusual wedding planed and want your album to show how you did it your way, all the more reason to make sure you get the right photographer. If you want your wedding on the side of a mountain or jumping out of an airplane then you need to find a photographer who is A. Up to doing it and B. Make you an album full of photography to match the occasion the style here must capture you in a whole different aspect from the norm to reflect the way you have chosen to be wed and you will probably need to do twice as much research and planning as anybody else.
Planning and research are key to creating the lifetime memories of your wedding day. Knowing in your own mind the style of images you want your photographer to capture on the day will be a big help to him/her when preparing for your wedding and leave you all on the same page as to what wedding pictures you are trying to achieve for your album.
